Supercharging signage with holiday rental QR codes

Signage is not a new form of advertising but the way people interact with it and the opportunities it offers for local marketing and lead generation has matured exponentially in recent years. One of the ways signage has evolved is with the increased uptake in QR code usage.

While this method of marketing has existed for some time, it presented a slow burn for many years. Since 2020 however, it has hit its stride in a whole new way, and for the strategic marketing of holiday homes it is proving to be a powerful tool that supports holiday let owners in meeting their goals for their properties.

QR Codes

QR codes now commonplace in consumer habits

We introduced QR code signage to our Devon holiday lets in 2020 – subject to the permissions of homeowners - to maximise an opportunity driven by developments in consumer habits.

There has been a rapid and enduring demand for holiday lets in the South West in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, and trends indicate that this will be a long-term development. As a result of limited availability, many people have sought to book up to 12 months ahead, even browsing places to stay the following year whilst still on holiday.

Bespoke signage for strategic marketing

One of the most effective ways of marketing to holidaymakers has proven to be with interactive signage. The holiday let signs that we provide, maximise booking opportunities from passers-by - and neighbours.

Our signs feature the property’s own holiday let email address to draw direct enquiries. But they also feature a unique QR code, which is linked straight to the holiday let’s individual booking page, enabling users to investigate a property ‘through the keyhole’ at their leisure. The holiday rental QR code use can be monitored, which enables analysis not least to inform price point recommendation for your holiday let for the next season.

One holidaymaker staying at a property neighbouring a holiday let that we host, contacted us as a result of the sign, saying:

“We’ve been peering over the fence all week and scanned the sign to check out the house inside too.  We’ve got holiday home envy!  We’d like to book you let for next year.”
