In February the government announced that it would begin ‘at pace’ to establish this register. The government had legislated for this and in 2023 ran a consultation.  

The consultation had ‘highlighted that a mandatory, national approach will promote a level playing field in the guest accommodation sector in England, particularly in the application of existing health & safety regulations*'. The design of the registration scheme is to be ‘light touch, low cost and as simple to use as possible’, with suggestion that the administration of it will be with local authorities, which the government intends will benefit significantly from the register.
