Planning law changes for holiday lets – update

In February the government announced that a new planning ‘use class’ will be created for holiday lets.

Associated permitted development rights will also be introduced, which both permit owners to change their property’s ‘use class’ from a holiday let to a standard residential dwelling (or reverse) without a full planning application, also permit the local authorities to require full planning permission if it comes to deem necessary.

The announcement notes that ‘existing dedicated short-term [holiday] lets will automatically be reclassified into the new class and will not require a planning application.

The government is in consultation with the industry on the details and intends to launch the ‘use class’ from this summer.

We will update our owners and explore how our management will assist our letting owners as more details become available. HolidayHost remains a member of relevant trade bodies including PASC UK.
